Modern Art at our House

frugality, green living, kitchen tips Add comments

I have found the best way as of late to dry and re-use my Ziplocs is to hang them on the clothsline in my hallway! They dry effectively and quickly in this manner. Why waste them? Get lots of use out of those handy bags and make a little modern art at the same time!

In order to get the most use and value out of Ziplocs, choice the Ziploc freezer version - it can be used for everything and holds up alot better than any cheaper brand! I tried the cheaper brands only for them to fall apart on me and thus increasing waste! I only buy one big box of Ziplocs annually at Costco (costing a little over $7) and it lasts me the whole year.

For more tips on re-using ziplocs, check out this post.

At our house, we hang our wet ziploc bags upside down with a magnet inside on the front of the refrigerator. Works great! :-)

Hmm I never had a problem w/hefty. I use both Ziploc and Hefty.

I only started recently reusing the baggies tho. Nothing that had food in it or anything along those lines tho. Just for things like water, or holding freezer packs for lunches.

I usually hang them over the faucet in the kitchen sink and over the sprayer.

One box of ziplocs annually… whoa, now THAT’s frugal! I used to wash my ziploc bags when we lived in China, and couldn’t get them. I was just thinking this morning of the money I could save by picking up the habit again. When drying our ziplocs, we would usually open them upside down over chopsticks in the drainboard. There were always lots of chipsticks drying!

Love the art work! You know what I would like to see? Someone to invent a gadget to wash and dry these bags in the dishwasher! Wouldn’t that be handy?

Great idea! I usually just prop mine up on the counter, but this will work much better. Thanks!

I love this idea. We reuse our too. I keep wondering though, as I’m washing them, as to the safety of the plastic. Does it degrade, or is it more likely to leach into the food it’s holding? Has anyone found any research?

My research has shown that Ziplocs are a #5 plastic and thus currently in the safe zone. I chose the highest quality Ziplocs to avoid breaking down easily. The only concerns I have found with plastic leaching into the food is if you use Ziplocs with hot food or to heat food in it. These are the times when the plastic can leach into the food, as a result of heat. Love to hear other thoughts…

We reuse are ziploc bags as well. We just wash them in the sink and then hang them out on the clothsline to dry.

We reuse our bags, too. Great idea on hanging them on the line, too! I usually use my paper towel holder to prop open or put them over a tall cup. Happy Frugal Friday!! :D

Wow. What a creative idea! I have heard about reusing Ziplocks, but this is great. I do buy cheapo brands, and I hate them. I toss those suckers like nobody’s business. I hate wasting and I’m trying to take care of the planet. So, I have been officially convicted by this post! :-) Thanks!
