Happy Birthday Lindsay!

Now before you think, “How conceited of her”… this is Aaron, Lindsay’s husband, the guy on the right in the photo. And no, she didn’t give me the idea.

We have a tradition in both of our families for birthdays (and I’m sure we’re not the only ones) to go around the table and share what we appreciate about the birthday boy/girl. In a way, all you readers have been part of our family by either praying for our recent car situation, making your own homemade deodorant, or just trying out soaking your grains. So now I ask, can you share something you appreciate about Lindsay? It could be as simple as a specific post, but I want you to know that Lindsay reads every single comment that is posted on her blog and reads every email that comes in too and she appreciates them all.

She has really tried to keep her blog simple and uncluttered therefore it’s been ad free (no, it’s not your ad-blocking software at work) and so she receives no monetary benefit at all. So please share your encouraging words with Lindsay and bless her socks off!

Thanks in advance…

-Aaron

P.S. – If you’d really like to bless her, check out her Amazon Wishlist.

Our new car!

I was hoping beyond hope that I would be able to share of the Lord’s provisions for us today in the realm of a car for Gratituesday, and low and behold…here we are!

The Lord has provided a wonderful “new” to us Subaru outback! We are so thankful to be able to have found a good deal on one so quickly, as Saturday was really our first shopping day. It needs a little work but the owner was willing to discount the price to cover the cost of the repairs…and after they are completed we should be good for a long time! Praise the Lord!

Thank you for your prayers! God is good! Now…just pray we would find a good buyer for our old vehicle…

Book Study Begins!

If you would like to join me for the book study on The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, now is the time! We begin chapter 1 this week and we will be open for discussion on the chapter next Monday and will slowly work our way through this wonderful book! It is well worth the read for any mother, whatever season you are in! I would encourage you to really dig deep and spend some time in the application section at the end of each chapter. She has powerful Scripture passages to meditate upon which brings further depth and insight into this study.

This book is a powerful call for mothers to see our first mission field to be among our own children! To see each heart as one that needs nuturing, love, training, and discipline for the purpose of growing them in godliness and building a spiritual legacy. They are precious souls that are treasures we are storing up in heavens as we invest in their spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being!

I hope you join us!

Menu Plan – September 1-6 & Canning Fun!

We had a lot of fun this past weekend canning away! On Thursday, I sliced up and froze one 25 lb box of peaches for smoothies over the winter. For the frozen ones, I kept it simple and just sliced them up, unpeeled, into eighths and laid them out in Ziploc bags. I also canned another 25 lb box to make 25 pints of canned peaches for Karis, fruit salads, peach cobblers, etc. It was so fun and my first experience with canning peaches. It was so simple and they turned out delicious! I followed these basic instructions and simplified it by leaving all the peels on (hoping to preserve some of the nutrition in the peel and save me time!), and I made the syrup out of honey and water to make it more natural (also explained on the site). I also barely cooked them in the syrup – maybe a minute or two just to heat them up for hot packing, in an effort not to lose a lot of nutrients which can result from canning.

On Friday, my mom, some of my siblings and I made a large batch of applesauce! 50 quarts all together. What a blessing to enjoy the apples my parents have grown in their backyard for so long and produce a good harvest of applesauce. We sweetened these with rapadura and cinnamon and it was definitely yummy! Canning is so much fun!

Saturday was spent car shopping and getting our current vehicle all cleaned up and posted for sale. Oh the joys of searching for a used car on craigslist! It is definitely the best way to go, and after switching gears several times, we think we may have found a good vehicle for us, Lord willing. It will be taken to our family mechanic tomorrow to get checked out before we proceed further. Thanks for your prayers in this process! Now to get a buyer for our current vehicle!

We will be taking some time of this week to celebrate my birthday…Aaron and I are going away for the weekend all by ourselves! Praise the Lord! Karis will be spending some extended time with my family. I am so greatly looking forward to this little outing to the beach!

Now on to our menu plan…

Modesty Carnival!

Wanted to give you all a heads up on the fun modesty carnival that my sister, Christa, is hosting over at her site, Empowered Traditionalist. Check out all the wonderful posts and stay tuned for more additions over the next two weeks. She is calling me to write a post to contribute, so we will see how that goes! She is also open to receiving submissions from other bloggers…so think of a creative post around the theme of modesty and send it her way!

August at our Home

As I look back on the summer and welcome in the coming of fall, I am so thankful for each new season of life and the wonderful cycles that God has so beautifully fashioned. We had a full but productive summer!

This month included many adventures…camping with Lightsys (the technology in missions ministry we are joining), a quick weekend trip up to Seattle to visit Aaron’s extended family, lots of family birthday parties (as so many of them fall in this month!), car breakdowns, mommy’s belly starting to pooch out just a little bit announcing new life on the way, Karis starting to walk, enjoying the first fruits of our container garden, storing up wonderful produce for the winter, and the like.

I have also experienced both of my blenders breaking on me (one which came with my Bosch mixer and the other which was a backup and had been loaned to my brother-in-law, and broke shortly after he returned it to me while I waited for my Bosch replacement). Alas…a huge loss around here! Thankfully one is covered under warranty but the piece is on back order for who knows how long…it’s been pushing a month now and yet I still keep adding smoothies to my breakfast menus in faith that it will arrive.

Among all the adventures, the reigning truth is that God is sovereign and always working out His perfect plan in and through our lives. I rejoice to see the good work that He is doing and His merciful provisions in everything.

Car Troubles…

Would you join us in praying for our current car situation? It has only been two months since the starter and brake pads had to be replaced and on Monday night the transmission went out. The cost of a new transmission is defintely far more than the car is actually worth, so we are in search of a used transmission with low mileage, which are apparantly difficult to find. This still might cost more than the care is worth. We were praying our current car would last at least through our second child before upgrading to a mini van of some sort…I am confident that the Lord will supply all our needs as He has providentally done in the past, but I would appreciate your prayers!

First Fruits!

We picked our first green pepper yesterday! It is so cute and perfect! Green peppers were surprisingly easy to grow, which is a huge blessing to the newbie over here! Karis was delighted to be able to help mommy pick it! The tomatoes are coming along nicely as well…we will definitely have an abundance! Praise the Lord for the amazing ability to grow some of our own food even in limited space on the deck!

Lightsys Retreat Recap

We had a lovely camping trip with the Lightsys team this past weekend at Mt. Rainier, which is a spectacular view that my hubby captured well in the above picture. The Lord really blessed our trip and gave us confirmation that this is the direction He is calling us to. (To read more about our journey in this direction, read here).

The team – including two interns who were there for the summer

As we heard many stories of how God has used this ministry to serve missionaries and mission organizations around the world through technology services (training, services, repairs, etc), I knew that my husband was excited and that this was exactly up his alley!

Hiking around Mt. Rainier – the beautiful falls and scenery!

Karis did amazingly well. We finally figured out the trick and decided to just all go to bed at the same time, as before it seemed that she would wake up when we entered the tent (no matter how quiet we were). She slept wonderfully all three nights, going from 9pm-8 am. Hallelujah!

Thank you for your prayers!

My thanksgiving for the week:

1. God is so faithful to lead and direct us when we continue to seek His face and step out in faith. He gives us specific gifts for a purpose! I always imagined Aaron preaching in front of an unreached people group, but then the Lord revealed to me that that was not where He had gifted Aaron. He gifted him with technology skills which are greatly needed in mission work!

2. I am thankful for good sleep!

3. I am thankful for healthy home cooking! They provided all the food for us for the weekend, which was a huge blessing, and something I am thankful for! Yet, I am thankful to return home and start including more fruits and veggies!

Head over to Heavenly Homemaker’s and join Gratituesday.

Signing off…

We are taking off for the weekend (through Monday morning), to participate in a camping retreat with the Lightsys team. This is the technology missionary group the Lord has been leading us to join to use Aaron’s computer skills in the furtherance of God’s kingdom. Would you consider praying for us? That the Lord would unite our hearts together with the team, that it would be restful and blessed of Him, and that the Lord would really confirm in our hearts that this is the direction He is calling us to. I would appreciate your prayers that Karis would sleep well too (as it hasn’t worked so well on the last two overnight outings)!
