My favorite bread-making tip is to keep the dough sticky and oil your hands and the counter for shaping. The bread is always tastier!

  5. Jenny May 01, 2010 at 12:54 am #

What I love most about home baked goodies is that I can prepare them with wholesome ingredients for my family and almost always take out the refined sugar and replace it with honey. Home baked goods always taste fresh and don't last long in my house!

Signed up for Paula's email list. Hoping she has a special on just the grain mill soon – I'm almost ready to order it!

  7. gojigirl May 01, 2010 at 12:33 am #

I often replace the butter/oil in bread doughs with coconut oil. You can't taste a difference, and I'm glad to be getting more coconut into my family. :)

I love home baked goodies! They are delicious and I know this is TMI but we all know they keep bowel movements regular which is so good for our health! I used to use soy lecithin in my bread but then I found organic rice bran extract which works great, is healthier and less expensive. That's my tip.

  9. Shelley Haskell May 01, 2010 at 12:24 am #

What I love about homemade goodies is that this come from my own hands that was given from God. I love the way it makes me feel to nourish my family with something made from my hands.

My favorite things about baking homemade goodies is the smell throughout the house, the smile on the faces of your family as they eat it, and the fact that you know what went into the food your family is eating!! :)

Oh, I'd love to be a good bread-maker. I've baked it here and there, but never consistently. I'd love to get a good bread routine going! :)

    I just put:

Enter to win a Bread Making Kit from @paulasbread at @passionatehome! http://www.passionatehomemaking.com

Hope that's okay…. I didn't know any other way to do it.

  22. Jill Apr 30, 2010 at 9:19 pm #

I'd love to win this kit! I have been making my own bread for several months, but mine is far from perfect…I've learned to add flour slowly as it's kneeding…I always seem to over-do it!

  23. Nicole Conover Apr 30, 2010 at 9:18 pm #

The best tip I found for myself is let the machine do all the kneading! LOL!

  24. Melissa @ Anxious for Nothing Apr 30, 2010 at 9:11 pm #

I'm not an expert bread maker, and this tip is not rocket science or anything, but I prefer to use my bread machine solely for mixing and rising, and then I bake the bread in a separate pan in the oven. The crust always comes out better in the oven than in the machine.

I love the flavor and texture of a homemade bread! There is nothing as traditional foods and fill your stomach and your soul.

  27. MomOf5InterestingKids Apr 30, 2010 at 8:56 pm #

It tastes so great when it's homemade, but add to it the knowledge of how much money you save and knowing exactly what you use, and baking becomes a very rewarding interest! I have a Braun machine, very similar to the Bosch, but I really would LOVE to have a grain mill one day! Bread from freshly ground wheat is sooooo much incredibly better!

  28. Mimi Apr 30, 2010 at 8:53 pm #

I love homemade baked goodies because it's great knowing what went into the bread, cookies, cakes, muffins, etc. Nothing tastes quite as good as homemade bread.

  29. hannah_s Apr 30, 2010 at 8:50 pm #

Save potato water to use for all or part of the liquid in your homemade breads. It not only boosts the nutrition, but it also helps to make a more tender, flavorful loaf that will keep longer, too!

  30. LifeInk Apr 30, 2010 at 8:17 pm #

I love that I can eat homemade baked goods warm and the smell fills up my house!

What a great giveaway! I'd love to have the chance to learn about breadmaking. The thing I like best about home-made goodies is the fact that I know what's in them…and what's NOT in them. Peace of mind!

  34. christa778 Apr 30, 2010 at 8:05 pm #

I love making my bread for many reason. I know whats in it and can use quality ingredients not to mention it tastes MUCH MUCH better….don't think I will ever be able to go back to duck bread=)

My best bread baking tip is . . .take your time! My biggest bread making failures have come when I am rushed!

    I subscribed to Paula's Bread newsletter :)

  38. Megan Root Apr 30, 2010 at 7:47 pm #

I love making the bread dough in a bread maker, and then baking it in the oven. You get great texture and flavor that way, without all the work of kneading the dough!

  39. colleen_evelyn Apr 30, 2010 at 7:17 pm #

I welcomed my third baby girl eight weeks ago and am feeling ready to plunge back into breadmaking after a rest!

  42. Kim Apr 30, 2010 at 6:59 pm #

I love the smell of fresh baked goods, and I love that I know whats in them.

  43. margaret_f Apr 30, 2010 at 6:43 pm #

Perhaps the best thing about homemade treats is the ability to experiment with a thousand variations on wholesome, additive-free baked goods… and then see the happy faces those treats inspire. Baking with friends and family is also a great time for fellowship!

Vital wheat gluten makes an enormous difference in bread texture. My biggest bread-making revelation was the discovery that, with enough vital wheat gluten, I could make great bread even though I only had barley (very low-gluten grain) in the cupboard.

The only tip I can really give is keep plugging away at it…. you learn as you go! I haven't had anyone to help me and each time comes out a bit better. My favorite thing about home-baked goodies besides the comfort of them is the peace of mind knowing exactly what you're feeding your family! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway!

  46. Kim Apr 30, 2010 at 6:21 pm #

I love the smell of home baked goods, the peace of knowing what is in them, and the taste. Thanks for this giveaway.

  47. kathydale Apr 30, 2010 at 5:58 pm #

My favorite hint is keep on trying. I haven't had anyone by my side to teach me to make whole grain bread, but I keep trying. This DVD sounds fantastic. I've seen some different videos on line that show little demos, but this sounds like it has it all! Love that.

  48. Michelle Grazor Apr 30, 2010 at 5:33 pm #

I love knowing what exactly is in my bread and I love the wonderful taste of freshness.

  49. Jody Lee Apr 30, 2010 at 5:22 pm #

I am relatively new to the soaking my grains, and it has been such a fun challenge to see how my bread will come out, learn from my mistakes, and try something new the next time! I've appreciated your knowledge in this area! I love having some toasted whole wheat bread with some butter and jelly in the morning! Mmm!

My favorite thing about baking or cooking for my family is their excitement when I present the finished product. I love the hear “OHHHHHH….my favorite!” or “Oh, I LOVE this stuff”. One just doesn't this kind of enthusiasm over stuff bought at the supermarket. My bunch feels my love from my kitchen!
