Enjoying Local: Hot Lips Pizza

I am excited to begin sharing on occasion about our reviews of local restaurants and resources that help to encourage sustainable practices for the benefit of my local friends. Today I want to share a bit about our recent stop at a local restaurant called Hot Lips Pizza.

img_5756I am all for new adventures, especially when it comes to food! My husband on the other hand is not so enthusiastic, but he is never opposed to pizza! On a recent date night, we took a trip into Portland’s Pearl District to enjoy Hot Lips Pizza.

Hot Lips has several locations in the Portland, OR area, and is family owned and operated. It is quite a fun little place. The atmosphere is very casual. They are strong supporters of choosing their products and ingredients from local farmers. img_5750On the menu, we tried half of the seasonal/local tomato, pesto and ricotta pizza along with half an italian combo (the hubby can’t get by without meat!). We absolutely loved the crispy but thick crust on their pizzas. The seasonal pizza was very unique, and although it didn’t overflow with amazing flavor, it was still enjoyable. The best part about our evening was enjoying the Hot Lips Soda’s, which are specially made by the company from all natural ingredients and local berries. We tried the pear and raspberry flavors and they were both delicious. Yum!

I loved how all their paper products, bottles, etc. were made from recycled materials and were either compostable or recyclable after use…everything!

So if you are in the area, it is definitely worth a visit!

P.S. If you have a chinook coupon book, check out the coupon for two free soda’s with the purchase of a whole pizza. Bring it on!

I am so blessed that my husband really likes trying new foods. You are very blessed that your husband supports your cooking at home – drinking green smoothies, etc. To have someone that appreciates you and what you do is so sustaining.

Hmmm…that sounds good. Looks like a cute little restaurant. It must be nice to find a restaurant that serves food made with more natural ingredients.

Such fun photos! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review! HOTLIPS Pizza is only in Portland but you can get HOTLIPS Soda in Seattle! Check our website HOTLIPSsoda.com for where to get it in Seattle (and elsewhere). Thanks, David.

Sounds like a great time! I wish they had restaurants like that here in Ohio.

How are you guys getting out for a date night? More specifically, are you pumping milk for Titus? Do you have family nearby or are you hiring a babysitter?

We are in desperate need of the occasional date night, but no family nearby and no leads on good sitters…and it has to be someone really good for me to trust them with my kids. I don’t get enough milk out of my hand pump, and don’t want to give Bethany formula. She’s right at that separation anxiety age where she won’t even tolerate staying with Daddy while I run to the store. Anyone have any tips for getting in a date night, especially if you aren’t fortunate enough to have family nearby?

Do you have friends that your daughter plays with? Could you create a babysitting co=op? Everyone takes turns sitting one night a month? I am blessed that I was volunteering at the hospital before Leah and one of my co-workers has been a great babysitter for me.

Have a date night at home! Set-up a card table in the bedroom w/a pretty table cloth, and napkins, candles etc. Set the lights on dimmer, have hubby instill a dimmer if you don’t already have one, or even off! And just eat by candle light.

Then prepare both of your favorite meals. Make it a 4 course meal, it’s cheaper, and the baby will be home! (hopefully sleeping)

Date nights don’t have to be out. It’s a luxury, we are lucky to have family near us to enjoy a night out, or a weekend getaway.

Then after dinner, you can throw some big fluffy pillows on the floor on a blanket and eat dessert!

I didn’t realize you live in Portland! Does Hot Lips have any Seattle branches?

Mmm, I love that place. Hey, I just got my soap nuts and I love them (and I love how much $ it will save us). :)

    Take care.
