Free Rebate for Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara

Physician’s Formula has recently released a completely 100% natural make-up line, called Organic Wear. No parabens, fragrances, preservatives or harsh chemicals. They are even offering a free rebate for their mascara product (which regularly sells for $9.95 – one of the cheapest natural brands available). After our recent discussion on natural mascara’s, I thought this would be a good tip to share, especially as you can find this product in many stores (Rite Aid, Walgreen’s, etc). Rite Aid is offering a buy one get one free sale on this product as well (Sale ends Saturday, March 7 – no coupon necessary)! From my research it looks like this is nation wide, but check the website for your local sales flyer. Click here for your rebate for Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara. Make sure to buy one marked with the “Try this Free” label to get the rebate. This rebate lasts from 1/1/09 to 12/31/09.  Together with the sale and rebate, I was able to buy two containers of natural mascara for free! Yipee! Thanks to Gloria for the tip about the Rite Aid sale this week!

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say that you’ve done a superb job with this. Also, the blog loads super quick for me on Chrome. Excellent Blog!

I found this website on “Kelly the Kitchen Kop” and was amazed at all of the great information on cosmetics (I was horrified that the majority of my cosmetics were considered “hazerdous”!). I didn’t see the Organic Wear mascara, but there were other Organic Wear products listed.

May I also offer another suggestion for paraben-free mascara?
It is from Shaklee, and they offer all natural make-up as well.
Not only that but it is clinically tested, pH balanced, hypoallergenic and more. The whole skin care line is protected by 8 patents!

I got this the other day and wore it yesterday for the first time. I thought it went on clumpy, which I didn’t like, and kind of gave the spidery eyelash effect. It wore off throughout the day and left smudges under my eyes. Also, while we were eating dinner that contained onions, my eyes got really burny and watery, so I thought it was the onions. But later at night I was reading a post that made me cry, and my eyes started ON FIRE from the mascara. So much that I had to go and wash it off immediately. I’ve never had that happen with a mascara, and I’ve used many. Needless to say, it got returned today.
    Thumbs down.
Going back to my Ecco Bella or Dr. Hauschka. It was worth a try, though.
Congrats on your new sweet baby, by the way!

I am surprised you only tried it once. I found that just like most natural products there is a bit of an adjustment period. The first day it left little smudges under my eyes, but it has not done it since. I think I got used to the idea and didn’t rub my eyes! It did not go on any more clumpy than the standard brand of Maybelline that I had been using formally. Just so you know…Ecco Bella has parabens! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I bought the mascara yesterday (even though I couldn’t find one with the “free” sticker on it; it’s still a pretty good deal), but I was really surprised by one of the ingredients: Magnesium Aluminum Silicate. Shucks. Here we are trying to avoid aluminum pans and deodorants, and I’m going to put it on my eyelashes? I’m not sure if I should keep it or take it back. What do others think?? Also, their lip gloss lists the first ingredient as bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, and you know what is said about ingredients you can’t pronounce or that contain numbers. This stuff may have no parabens, but I’m not sure it’s 100% as natural as they’re claiming.

    • Lindsay March 11, 2009 at 1:09 pm #

Do you know for sure this is the same kind of aluminum that is found in deodorants? I would recommend calling the company to confirm your findings before you discard them completely. Just a thought.

I checked EWG’s Skin Deep Database, and the ingredients is a level 4, moderate hazard. It is not the same ingredient as in antiperspirants, but all the aluminum chemicals for antiperspirants are listed as level 3-4 as well. ??? “Neurotoxicity” never sounds fun, but it’s hard to tell what an “acceptable risk” might be. Do you have a risk level that you consider safe at the EWG site? Thanks!

I know that the PF organic line has not been tested by the Skin Deep Database currently. They only show the regular PF brand. It may not be the best natural mascara, but it is a huge improvement over the Maybelline mascara that is popular (and I used formally) which is a #7 on the database. I personally don’t follow the database very much, as it has such mixed evaluations of different companies…you really have to know the company or talk with them personally to get all the true facts.

Thanks so much for the info, Lindsay. And congratulations on your newest blessing! Rejoicing with you!!!

I came across your blog a month or so ago and have been so blessed by it! Thanks for sharing this info on the mascara. I was reading your other post about mineral make up. That’s something I’m interested in looking into, but had a few questions that maybe you or someone else could answer. Is it OK for oily skin? How is the “staying power” of the make up? Does it last all day or do you need to reapply if going out at night? Thanks again!

    • Lindsay March 5, 2009 at 8:50 am #

Yes, it works great for oily skin. Since it is from a powder base, it will not last as long as liquid makeup, but it is far more natural looking, and much better for your skin. I usually reapply just a bit of the bronzer (which is like a blush) if I am going out again at night. I have been amazed at how well mineral makeup stretches though. I have had my set for a year and a half now and it is still going strong while applying it 3-4 times a week at least.

    • Kate March 7, 2009 at 9:01 am #

I just started using mary kay mineral make-up, and I have oily skin. My experience, I had to stop using it, because I had a reaction to it. I don’t know if it was the minerals or if I’m ultra-sensitive. I’ll be safe and say the latter. I’ve also had terrible dry cheeks, which I have some dry facial skin in the winter, but this is especially dry.

I’m a bit leary about trying another brand at this point. Especially since mineral make-up isn’t the cheapest!

Thank you for this tip. Do you know if animal experiments are involved in the production? I try to avoid products of this kind.
    Blessings, Rosa

    • Lindsay March 5, 2009 at 8:29 am #

No animal testing on their products.

I was just going to say that our Rite Aid was out of the mascara, but they gave me a rain check, so be sure and ask if they are out! Thanks for the heads up on the sale!
