This has been my heart’s cry as of late with the strain of our economy and work slowing down for many, including my husband. Lord, keep me in a constant state of dependence upon the Soveriegn provision of my Lord in order that I might exalt His name! I want Christ as my portion! If I walk in Him, all my true needs will be provided for and I will not loose sight of the great gift of life that He has granted me in Christ Jesus! Riches will not bring satisfaction, in fact in will gradually turn my heart away from the Lord. Ultimately, I want to mantain this middle state, one that avoids the two great tempations – to trust in riches or to steal from another! If I have too much that my heart is finding purpose in my possessions then some must be given away. I must maintain a simple life in order that I will always look to Christ Jesus as my constant source of provision!

So true, Lindsay, so true. I am with you in that prayer. Our greatest need is not riches or material wealth or even God’s physical provision for us (though I think that we can trust Him to meet our basic needs), but rather it is to be saved by our incredible Savior, and to learn greater dependence on Him! To learn that He is truly enough… thanks for sharing.

You are not alone in your heart’s desire or circumstances.God promises to provide for His children’s daily needs. My family and I are praying for contentment in that. The Lord truly blesses us when He allows us to see the false sense of security we think we have in anything other than Him.

These days w/the economy reminds be to be so thankful to God for leading us down career paths in the medical field. No chance of it getting slow, laid off, downsized, work sent overseas etc.
The best my husband and I ever did was to stop contributing to our 401K, and open a Roth IRA! And that was several years before this current economic crisis.
Having money has never turned our hearts from God, but has proven we have more to give, and more to share w/ours. A bigger home to invite guest speakers (for our church) into our home for that week/weekend.
