I made it last night with about 2 lbs of fresh/frozen tomatoes that I froze from this year's bounty. First I put them in boiling water to remove the skins, then cut 'em up chunky. Bottom line... absolutely delicious! I tweaked the recipe by adding some dry dill weed, dry chili flakes, and finally, I cooked in some half & half cream. I used "Just like Sugar" for the sweetener. THANKS!

I have to try this! I just got a bunch of VERY ripe tomatoes and soup is the only way my husband likes them. I can answer the baking soda thing. Baking soda is a base and tomatoes are acid. When you mix the two they cancel each other out. Good sicence project for the kids is to see what happens to milk in water with baking soda, lemon juce and a mix of baking soda and lemon juce in water.

Becki the former lab tech now a very, very happy wife and mother!

Thanks. I also had several left over tomatos from my garden. This is a great basic tomato soup recipe. You can add almost anything to it to make it your own. I added a few bacon bits and diced a few tomatos to give it texture, and called it a BLT soup (the celery and onions substitute for the lettuce). It was delicious. Thanks again!!

Great recipe! I love that unlike the canned version, it does NOT contain harmful high fructose corn syrup. Thank you for posting!

How many does your recipe serve? I want to make just enough for two, maybe a bit more.

I made this soup from your recipe today, using half fresh tomatoes and half frozen. Instead of the cup of water I just added 2 chicken boulion cubes to the tomatoes as they were cooking. I thought the frozen tomatoes would make it too watery. For a little sweetness I used two packets of Stevia, being a diabetic. It turned out absolutely delicious and this was my first time for homemade tomato soup ever!
Thankyou for sharing, you have a very attractive website.
