Yes, it is definitely wisest to throw out/recycle the ones you use for meat. I always do that for safety!

I like this idea as well and have been doing it, however, I do throw out the ones used for meat. I am thinking the bacteria that is on the meat and that transfers to the bags is hard to remove all the way. What do you think? Has anyone heard anything related to this?

Love this idea! This post would be a perfect one to link up to "Twice the Fun Tuesday" at my site havingfunathomeblog.blogspot.com.

Twice the Fun is a weekly mr. linky about creative recycling that will start next Tuesday (Oct 14.) It would be great to see your post there!

Wow. What a creative idea! I have heard about reusing Ziplocks, but this is great. I do buy cheapo brands, and I hate them. I toss those suckers like nobody's business. I hate wasting and I'm trying to take care of the planet. So, I have been officially convicted by this post! :-) Thanks!

We reuse our bags, too. Great idea on hanging them on the line, too! I usually use my paper towel holder to prop open or put them over a tall cup. Happy Frugal Friday!! :D

My research has shown that Ziplocs are a #5 plastic and thus currently in the safe zone. I chose the highest quality Ziplocs to avoid breaking down easily. The only concerns I have found with plastic leaching into the food is if you use Ziplocs with hot food or to heat food in it. These are the times when the plastic can leach into the food, as a result of heat. Love to hear other thoughts...

I love this idea. We reuse our too. I keep wondering though, as I'm washing them, as to the safety of the plastic. Does it degrade, or is it more likely to leach into the food it's holding? Has anyone found any research?
