I love this, I am going to a wedding next week and am now planning to give a basket to them. If someone could find a picnic basket at a yard sale for a good price that would be a nice addition also. Thank you again for this idea.

These are great ideas - and especially useful when many of your friends are getting married around the same time! All those gifts really add up!

My favorite way to buy wedding gifts is to find an item that I feel fits the couple's personality on etsy.com - a website where artists and artisans sell handmade goods. Then I'm supporting an independent artist instead of a corporation. Plus it's tons of fun to look at the crazy and beautiful things people make!

I did one for an outdoorsy couple from my church who had registered for some picnic/marshmallow forks and a campfire sandwich/pie-maker. I tucked a red and black buffalo plaid fleece blanket from my gifting stash (purchased on sale at Christmastime) into a woven straw tote, and then placed the picnic forks and the pie-maker in there with all the makings of s'mores. It incorporated items from their registry (so I knew they would be enjoyed) with the means to enjoy them. The bride squealed with glee at the shower! Fun!

Another idea that I like to do for wedding gifts is to go to a Fairtrade store (Ten Thousand Villages) and buy a couple of really nice Christmas tree ornaments (on sale just after Christmas!). Or, you could make a few! I have found that most people get to their 1st Christmas and have next to nothing, besides matchy-match store-bought ornaments to decorate their tree! It might seem weird at the time, but when they actually put them on their tree, they'll appreciate it, and remember your gift. Picking out really special ones that speak to the couple's interests is a nice way to go! Just a thought. :)

I understand most Tupperware is #5 plastic, but some are not safe. Check out <a href="http://order.tupperware.com/pls/htprod_www/tup_widget.show_page?fv_page_code=prodcodes&fv_section_name=help&fv_category_code=search&fv_item_category_code=200530" rel="nofollow">this article</a> from their website. The key: never reheat in plastic containers!

This has nothing to do with the baskets...I have a question about plastics.
Have you done any research on Tupperware and whether or not it is a safe plastic?
Thanks!

A couple of good marriage books are good too. Coconut oil, massage oil, some nice washcloths, bath towels, hand towels etc. Stuff along those lines.

Great idea! I've also done a "romantic picnic basket" for summer weddings. I pack the place setting (like you have), along with some inexpensive picnic foods (kettle chips, sparkling lemonade, etc.). I use either a picnic basket or a small insulated cooler (I keep an eye out for sales). I gave one to my sister-in-law (for her early Sept. wedding), and they loved having it for their honeymoon at the coast.

By the way, I answered your question about my beauty/cleansing routine here: <a href="http://frugalgranola.blogspot.com/2008/06/frugal-natural-beauty.html" rel="nofollow">Frugal, Natural Beauty</a> :) Thanks!
